“Flagler Beach Pier – Status Update”
The following information is being proactively provided in reference to the status of our world famous Pier; which has been closed since Hurricane Matthew.
The Flagler Beach Pier sustained considerable damage during Hurricane Matthew and as a result was closed to the public for extensive repairs. On Thursday, April 20, 2017, Structural Engineers from Mott MacDonald conducted an inspection of the Pier. The Engineers approved the temporary use of a small portion of the Pier for the April 22, 2017 “Cheer at the Pier” event.
The 4th annual “Cheer at the Pier” was a one (1) day, three (3) hour special event that utilized only the approved, small portion of the Pier. The approval was for this single event only. At the conclusion of the “Cheer at the Pier” event, the Pier was once again closed to the public. Repairs to the entire Pier are ongoing and we anticipate the re-opening of Pier to the public by June 1, 2017.
Flagler Beach Police Chief Matt Doughney stated “Our Pier is beloved and as a City we’re excited about it re-opening to the public as soon as all repairs are completed and Structural Engineers determine it to be safe”. Doughney continued “We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as the Pier is closed for repairs. We’re looking forward to the Pier re-opening to the public, which barring any unforeseen delays will be by June 1, 2017”.
