Flagler Beach Police Department - Kids n Kops 2006 Halloween Event
At the 12th annual Flagler Beach Police Department Kids-N-Kops Halloween Festival on October 28th, approximately 130 children and their parents enjoyed a family oriented afternoon. The event which is free to the public included games, food, a costume judging contest, and prizes for every child. With the recent introduction of a motorcycle to the fleet of police vehicles, each child received a souvenir picture sitting on the motorcycle with police officer, Robert Burns. The police department is under the leadership of Chief Roger Free.
With the assistance of many officers, officer Deneen Wilson gave a presentation to the children regarding safety on Halloween night. When asked what were ways to be safe on Halloween, many children were eager to throw out phrases such as "carry a flashlight, go in groups, go in neighborhoods you are familiar with, wear reflective clothing, check your candy before eating it, and go with your parents."
With many hours of hard work, officer Bobby McDonald and Sgt. Dan Cody have been vital in the construction of a haunted house that is part of the Halloween festival. The haunted house provides a child friendly atmosphere for the younger children. Many clung to their parents hands and others felt brave enough to be the leader.
When the sun set and the stars came out, the police were ready to greet the pre-teens and older guests. The evening festival included a DJ, dance, food, and door prize drawings. The haunted house lost the child friendly atmosphere and with the assistance of the Flagler Beach Fire Department, they offered scares for all who entered. The haunted house that included the ghost of Christmas past, flying ghosts, spiders, chainsaw massacre, talking head, and more was piped throughout the building with custom music and sound fx in full Dolby Digital Surround Sound created by officer Kevin Pineda.
