FBPD's Motorcycle Unit focuses on traffic enforcement, crash investigations and traffic violation reduction, and also serves at ceremonial events including VIP motorcades, parades and as traffic escorts at special events. The motorcycle fleet is comprised of Harley Davidson Police Electra Glides equipped with 103 cubic inch (1690 cc) twin cam engines. Each motorcycle is equipped with state of the art speed detection devices utilizing both radar and laser technology. Each motor officer is required to attend and successfully pass an extensive 80 hour motorcycle training program. After completion of the basic school, officers must also attend mandatory monthly training to keep their skills sharp while operating the motorcycle. Officers with two years of full time employment with the Flagler Beach Police Department may apply for assignment as a Motorcycle Officer when a vacancy is announced. If seleted, the officer must successfully complete the police motorcycle training program prior to assuming his/her duties as a Flagler Beach Police Department Motorcycle Officer.
